I’ve just added a new section to my website where I’ll gather all my stories from and about India. For now there are singles from various projects, but some stories will follow soon.

unum

unum is a production company/agency/magazine for stories told in (German) words, photos, video and audio.

Finally I’ve launched my new project called unum. It is a production company/agency/magazine for stories told in (German) words, photos, video and audio. It’s not fledged yet, but I hope it will grow over the next months, years and maybe decades.

The first story is called “Die verlorenen Kinder Afghanistans” (“The lost children of Afghanistan”). It is a story on underaged Afghan refugees stuck in Greece, which has been published in various German newspapers. While this has been pretty much a solo production with the help of some friends (special thanks to Sascha Jatho for the music), I hope to collaborate with writers, photographers and videographers in the future.

unum will probably stay very small and exist only as side project and second outlet. It is an experiment both economically and journalistically. But it is something I’ve wanted to do for a very long time and thought was missing in Germany.

Photographing in India is like fishing in a bucket. It’s too easy. Beautiful colors and people everywhere. Just very few Indians mind if you point your camera directly at their faces. Actually it’s the opposite. Everybody wants their picture to be taken. Not that they want you to send them the photo, not even would they want to see it on your camera’s screen. They just want to hear the click and that’s it. This has lead to a (literally) hundreds of photos in my archive of posing Indians of all ages and genders (and I mean all). I try to avoid the posing by shooting from the hip or waiting till they get bored of me. The above is one of the very few examples where I actually liked the result.
