Photography for me is much more about the stories you witness and communicate than about the image itself. I am still amazed where a camera can take you. I’ve been to Haiti and Afghanistan and moved to India, met some of the most interesting people ever and started working for clients I’ve always wanted to work for.
Above is selection from shattered Port au Prince, Maoist infested rural India, the uprise in Kashmir and the war in Afghanistan. It sounds bleak, but if this year has taught me something about the media’s representation of reality it is that reality is far too complex to adhere to the media’s needs. It is much easier to go for the cliché than for an actual representation of all the complexities of a story. This is why the image below is one of my favorites of this year.
