Despite Turkey being a model democracy for the post-revolution Arab world, it is one of the worst countries when it comes to press freedom. Currently, some 70 journalists are in jail. And recently around 30 journalist were arrested because of allged ties to militant Kurdish organizations. Turkey claims all journalists are in jail because of criminal charges and not their work as journalists.

In a government scheme to improve maternal health, women receive 1400 Indian Rupees if they give birth in a clinic. The Primary Health Centers provide basic health care in rural India. In recent years the Indian Government has tried to improve rural health care by  creating the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) and providing it with massive funds. While the situation has improved the NRHM has also opened the door for widespread corruption. Recently, two doctors administering NRHM funds have been killed.

Farmers gather at the construction site of the Yamuna Expressway from Delhi to Agra to protest for better compensation of land acquired and land soon to be acquired by the Government of Uttar Pradesh for the construction of the Expressway and development of surounding areas, Aug. 20, 2010, near the village of Tappal, District of Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, India. The farmers have been protesting for a month. According to them three people got killed in clashes with the police and two farmers' sons disappeared.  The farmers got agitated because the Government of Uttar Pradesh pays different rates for land in different areas along the Yamuna Expressway. The rates for land in the District of Aligarh are amongst the lowest.

Displaced women of the Rabha tribe prepare food in a makeshift kitchen behind a school that serves as an IDP camp, Goalpara, Assam, India. Feb. 4, 2011. Because of an ethnic conflict between the Rabha and Garo tribes several thousand people were displaced. Both conflicting parties burned down houses and destroyed means of livelihood of the other tribe. The Garo and Rabha live in the border areas of the Indian states of Meghalaya and Assam. They used to have peaceful relations and even inter-tribal marriages were common. The conflict broke out over land issues.
